Why I block my Q/As.

So I’ve had a few people e-mail me regarding why I don’t allow fans.  I thought I’d explain it here.

A few months ago, I noticed a pattern that every one of my answers in voting suddenly had 3 or 4 “No Best Answer” votes on it.  I didn’t think anything of it at the time.  Because it continued though, I realized that someone must have a vendetta against me – probably for holding the top spot on the leaderboard for Video and Online Games.  Unfortunately, as we’re not able to select who can be our fan or not, the only way to rectify this problem was to block all the fans.

It’s a shame that people have to take the leaderboard so seriously, so much so as to wreck the experience for other people.  I don’t answer questions on the site for any type of recognition.  Take my name off the leaderboard, I don’t care.  I do like knowing that I can help people.  Simple as that.  Those “Your answer has been chosen as the best answer” e-mails are all the reward I need.  Even if there wasn’t a leaderboard, I’d answer just as many questions and in the same manner.

Maybe sometime in the future I’ll unlock the fans option, but for now I feel like I can’t without my experience being sabotaged.

Just wanted to say that I do appreciate you taking your time to answer questions for of us who are electronically handicapped. I am a single mother with an eleven year old son and I don’t know what I would do without people like that give their own personal time to help others. You will be blessed. As with everything there are a few idiots that will ruin a good thing for everyone as in your case with the fan situation. Either way the one’s that you do help are truly grateful.
